update: my boss wants to give me his kidney — but I don’t want it by Alison Green on December 24, 2020 Remember the letter-writer whose boss was pressuring her to take his kidney for the kidney transplant she needs? The first update was here, second was here, and here’s the latest. I’m the kidney transplant OP and I just wanted to do a short update! I am a couple years out now and super healthy! I finished the Marine Corps Marathon last year with my husband and with my now former boss. He and I both moved on to different federal agencies, but he is such a big part of my life as a mentor still. My sister is in undergrad and planning to attend my parents alma mater for med school, which bums me out ha. Everyone is great and I am still so amazed by how blessed I am. Thankful for AAM* December 24, 2020 at 11:42 am Me too! I thought she married the boss! It might read better as “with both my husband and with my (now former) boss.”
Manana* December 24, 2020 at 11:50 am I had to go back and reread all the letters because I thought they ended up getting married! Yes, very confusing!
jean marie* December 24, 2020 at 11:52 am I feel like there is definitely a Lifetime movie in the making with the way the update currently reads…
Detective Amy Santiago* December 24, 2020 at 11:58 am Haha! I am glad I wasn’t the only one who read it that way.
Ask a Manager* Post authorDecember 24, 2020 at 12:27 pm 2 different people, I believe — her husband and her (now former) boss.
Saberise* December 24, 2020 at 12:28 pm I guess taken out of content one could read it that way but taken into account her next sentence it’s pretty obvious that she did not marry her former boss. At least I’ve never seen anyone refer their spouse as their mentor.
Girl Alex PR* December 28, 2020 at 12:43 am Exactly. My former boss is still happily married to his wife of 30 plus years, and my husband- the same one I had when I initially wrote in- and I will celebrate our 11 year anniversary next week!
General von Klinkerhoffen* December 24, 2020 at 11:38 am I am delighted to hear all is well! (Alison, could you maybe insert a word into “with my husband and now former boss” because it currently reads as though this is one person, not two: I had to go back and re-read)
Purple Loves Snow* December 24, 2020 at 11:47 am “I’m not crying, you’re crying” What a lovely update on Christmas Eve!
Dream Jobbed* December 24, 2020 at 11:55 am Agreed! Delightful update. So glad you’re doing so well OP! (Is your sister still planning on medical school? Just curious now that’s it’s years out and organic chemistry has reared its lovely head.)
Girl Alex PR* December 28, 2020 at 12:41 am She is still planning on med school! She’s not sure what speciality, but she’s incredibly excited!
Mannheim Steamroller* December 24, 2020 at 12:22 pm Now we need an update on Liver Boss (the one who demanded that everybody get tested to donate their livers to his brother, anf fired anyone who wouldn’t or couldn’t get tested).
Sick of Workplace Bullshit* December 24, 2020 at 12:23 pm Amazing! What a great outcome for everyone involved! I’m so happy for you, OP!
Jules* December 24, 2020 at 3:17 pm This gave me the chills. Congratulations to you on your health and happiness, to your sister for finding her passion, and to your boss for being an amazing human!
